Life triumphs over destruction

The Governor General visited Haiti recently and something she said resonated deeply in my heart, as I am sure it did for many people. It must have because it's references are all over the internet. She said "mourning is one thing; making sure life triumphs over destruction is the focus".

Recently, there has been a great deal of strife reported in the news over earthquakes. On the home front in Newfoundland, recent ice storms wiped out power lines and communication for thousands of people for several days now. Directly down the street from me, the shores of Quidi Vidi Lake was flooded. Not only that, I have been surrounded by people suffering from massive strokes, heart conditions, serious attacks of health, even death. I have to stop and take note, because this is all too much of a cooincidence. There is an energetic tide sweeping through that is forcing us to stand up and take notice. We have a choice to make; do we get swept up in the tide of destruction or do we choose life. Do we choose to embrace all that is good and loving and kind and compassionate, and remember the truth of life within our own soul, or do we buckle under the weight of becoming bitter about the hand that circumstance has given us?

I have believed for as long as I can remember that it is in times of hardship that our truest form comes to light. It is our opportunity to step up to the plate and demonstrate for ourselves and for each other what true loving kindness really looks like. It is our opportunity to let go of the all the meaningless 'stuff' and meaningless circumstance that we fight so hard to uphold. What has true meaning is not the structures of this world, but the fiber of our soul. It is that fiber the Governor General refers to when she reminds us to let life triumph over destruction.

Regardless of what is going on around us, when we are able to reach into our own soul and recognize the life that triumphs, then nothing going on around us will destroy us.
