Tending my garden

Tonight I was having a conversation with my friend in London. Even though I haven't known her long, she seems to have a way of putting into words the essence of my sentiments, somehow intuitively voicing exactly what I am feeling inside.

She spoke to me of tending my garden, both in terms of the physical garden I want to have included in my dream home, and also in terms of my spiritual garden that has been developing through my journey into awareness. Hmmm...how could she know that about 5 years ago I was facilitating a book study group on Sonia Choquette's Creating Your Heart's Desire. In this book, the analogy of a garden is used to explore the planting of seeds (intention), watering your garden with affirmations and love and pulling out the weeds of misunderstanding or misguided choices, and to put the kind of fences around your garden that will support it instead of choke it out. Like any beautiful garden, our heartspace and expression of inspiration in our life comes from such loving attention to our spiritual gardens found inside our heartspace.

So here I am, 5 years later, recognizing that I have continued tending to my garden in the same fashion that I started tilling the soil with a long time ago. My seeds of intention have been planted, the weeds getting pulled out as they creep up, and now I am in the nurturing phase, offering the spiritual waters that will strengthen the abundance that is offered from my garden. It takes time and loving attentiveness... sometimes I forget the amount of time, love, and intention I have already invested, and sometimes fail to see the threads that have woven it all together...but when I step back to see the results of growth in my garden...aahhh...what a beautiful sight to behold! Just as any farmer truly knows the investment of self into creating a living and a way of being from their farm, I am feeling tremendously blessed for the blood, sweat and tears that have already gone into nurturing the garden of my soul.
